I was a little bit shocked by the post-structuralism. What is it talking about? There’s no self?
Yes, I am constructing myself when I was writing this post. I want myself doesn’t sound stupid, I don’t want anyone knows that I haven’t read Jeff’s reading for this week. 🙂
But that is me, isn’t it? The way I am constructing my post, is different from David, Mingxian and Yen-ning. I am wondering how does post-structuralism explain the author’s intention behind the construction of his book?

I’m going to take a stab and say that post-structuralists aren’t concerned with how you think you constructed the post, only how readers interpret it.
Also, the way you construct this post is different than the way you’ll construct the final paper, an email to a friend, email to your parents, poking someone on Facebook, etc. All of those selves are different, even if subtly so.

Although I do read the reading, I still have the same question with you. 😀
For this problem, I guess the notion “there is no self” means there is no absolute and single self. When I read your post, I can not know “zhuofengness” because language always mean less than what you really want to say. Language can not reflect your thought completely. Of course you construct your post in a different way from mine, but your post and your real thought are different, too.
I don’t know if I am correct about this but I still wonder how the text we construct changes who we are.

but how about the way I construct this specific post? I believe there’s no other one will construct a post exactly the same as this one.
Yes, the way I construct my final paper will be different from this post, but there’ll be some similarity between these two, such as I like to ask questions, I like using “However” and “But” and my English will be slightly different from an American native writer. All those can be counted as my personal style, but isn’t there a self (person) behind them?

A tricky poststructuralist (is there any other kind?) might respond to your comments in the following way.
The reflection you’ve undergone about the post you wrote has changed who you are which means there was no solid you to begin with. You’ve changed every time you’ve done something and thought about it. You were not born knowing everything you’d know about being you, else you wouldn’t ask the questions you’ve asked. 🙂
